There is a forest, and inside that forest, the bluest bird you’ll ever see. You’ll find all sorts of things lining up before your eyes, curtsying and squabbling just to be caught in your glimpse. Even the trees appear to thunder, wistful to be spared of the five seconds left from your morning walk. The forest is full of life and so is La Jungla. After human civilization left Earth, La Jungla was no bigger than a crew ship. The Day of Ashes and the Solar Tempest, along with its many wars, left humanity gasping for air. Everyone knew it was over. Planet Earth was no longer inhabitable. And as such, at the last minute of the last hour in the eye of the storm, humanity stood at a crossroad, like a seesaw poised evenly. And right there and then all nations mustered up a final glint of hope, rejecting the Worshippers and choosing science and exploration. And as such, 1,000 humans from all walks of life were selected to take part in La Jungla. The mission? To reach the next habitable planet, Proxima Centauri B. A hundred years in, we lost contact with Earth and 4,000 years later, we still haven’t reached our destination. With our current technology, we're only halfway through—4,000 more to go and yes…let’s hope to dear mother there’s something there for us. In the meantime, La Jungla is our home. Through the ages, the ship’s grown to be half the size of planet Earth. It’s gargantuan. The ship and its five billion souls are divided into 20 Commons, each with their own sectors, boroughs, cities and meadows or neighbourhoods. With all of this noise, we’re certainly alone out here, for now. Despite our ever-advancing technologies, not one soul has crossed our path in the vastness of this ocean. But I’m an exobiologist and it is my job to believe the sky is full of stars, very much like our own with their own people going about their business.
